From September 14 to September 25, discover the Lodo exhibition,
ARGENTIQUE?
She could spend hours explaining why she loves to photograph in argentic. It's a process that engages all the senses. From the feel of the materials, the metal of the cameras, and the materiality of the images, to the sight of these incredible cameras that have lived so many lives before arriving in your hands. Looking through the glass, observing reality, and oh my - the sounds of the
appliances! The mirror rising, the shutter clicking, the film rolling. It all transports you.
Capturing each image takes time; you have to slow down, stand still and concentrate fully, making sure everything is perfect. You can't take 50 shots, only one, maybe two at the most.
Then comes development - using your hands, making mistakes and wondering how everything will come out. You learn from each mistake, you experiment, you wait. Each stage requires time and attention. You learn to measure time, develop patience and savor the excitement of not yet knowing the result.
Silver photography isn't just about the final images - although the grain and colors of each roll of film are undeniably beautiful and worth every effort. It's the whole experience that made her fall in love with argentic.
MEMORIES
Caterina has always been a very nostalgic creature, and therefore a collector of memories.
From an early age, she kept boxes full of objects that reminded her of special days, moments she had loved or challenges she had overcome. That's what her images often are: compulsions to frame something that has touched her, in one way or another. It's a way of making sure she doesn't forget, of sharing these moments with others and adding them to her own life.
others and add them to her collection of memories.
Spending time with each image - creating it, developing it, digitizing it and retouching it - allows her to relive that moment again and again, etching the memory in her mind so she can return to it when she needs to.
Memories define our lives, who we are, and are stories to be told. When times are hard, we can look back and see that life isn't all bad, and that there are many moments worth living.
VENETO - VALAIS
Caterina Lodo was born in the Veneto region and has lived in Valais for the past 8 years.
These two beautiful and authentic regions, with their landscapes, people and animals, are the central themes of her work.
As an expat living far from her family, she is often nostalgic for the places she frequented as a child, the food and the traditions. Whenever she has the opportunity to return, she strives to fully immerse herself in these experiences, capturing them, preserving memories and creating new ones.
She finds a certain poetry in returning to the same places and spending time with the same people across seasons and years. At the same time, she tries to make every visit to her family a new adventure, exploring places she didn't have the chance to discover during her absence. This turns her into a tourist in her own country. In the same way, this sense of exploration and discovery shapes her art,
reflecting the ongoing journey of re-connecting with her roots while living abroad.
The journey of discovery also continues in Switzerland. Even though she's been settled here for eight years, she remains an insatiable soul who craves constant exploration, moments of discovery and rediscovery. This passion has driven her to walk countless paths and create strong relationships with people who have become her adoptive family.
Coming from the sea and now living in the mountains, she is fortunate to discover and appreciate the perfect duality of these two landscapes. These two places have played such an important role in shaping the person she is today.
CATERINA LODO AND WHITEFRONTIER
Caterina Lodo has known the WhiteFrontier brewery from the very beginning. Indeed, she worked there as content manager from 2016 to 2018 before leaving to pursue another adventure. In 2023, she went freelance, and it was only natural that WhiteFrontier called on her to immortalize the brewery's finest moments. Today, we can safely say that Caterina has played her part in the success of our brewery in recent years. We're proud to welcome her first exhibition, called Lodo, to our Taproom ,
Her photos are for sale, so all you have to do is go to the bar and reserve the photos you're interested in. Caterina will contact you at the end of her exhibition.
Coming to see her exhibition is a way of supporting emerging artists in Switzerland. We're counting on you! Love
